Chair uses end of year message to thank staff

The Cathaoirleach, Cllr Clifford Kelly, has used his end of year message to pay tribute to the hundreds of local authority staff working behind the scenes at Cavan County Council to ensure the daily delivery of local services.

Speaking as councillors met at Cabra Castle near Kingscourt at their December monthly meeting, the Fianna Fáil representative said he “couldn’t thank them half enough” for their respective roles.

He spoke of their “dedication” to the county, and said Cavan was “very fortunate” to have people of such high “calibre” working at all levels.

“I wish all the members, all the staff, and all locals a very happy Christmas, and a bright and New Year.”

CEO of council, Tommy Ryan, concurred with the sentiment shared by Cavan’s First Citizen.

He said it has been yet another “unusual” year for many, but he thanked all the councillors for their “hard work”, and praised how they had adapted from in-person meetings to discussing matters online.

He too thanked the staff, saying there existed a “good relationship” between them and elected members, all of which bodes well in terms of working for the collective betterment of the county.

“We look forward to 2022 , and hope for better. We have to be resilient.”
