Cavan people urged to ‘Climb with Charlie’ for MND

People in Cavan are being encouraged to play their part in a major fundraiser in aid of two national charities.

Former RTÉ broadcaster Charlie Bird is to climb Croagh Patrick in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta House.

He went public with his diagnosis of MND late last year and, while the climb will be a challenge, says he hopes it will highlight the struggles of people and encourage donations.

Taking place on April 2, Charlie has encouraged people to organise local fundraisers, rather than travel to Mayo.

A fundraiser up Mullagh Hill will also take place on the day after locals organised their own trek.

And west Cavan Councillor John Paul Feeley (FF) is encouraging people to make the most of the Cavan Way route to support the fundraiser and also "show solidarity with Charlie Bird and all those fighting MND”.

He has asked the Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark Team and County Cavan Sports Partnership to work together to “see how best to coordinate this”.
