Town thanks retiring Postmaster

Phil Gilbride, who also owns Killeshandra Garden Centre, served as Postmaster in Belturbet for the past 15 years.

Members of the community of Belturbet turned out to congratulate and thank retiring post master, Phil Gilbride, for his years of service to the town.

Mr Gilbride, who also owns and operates Killeshandra Garden Centre with wife Deirdre, had served as Postmaster in Belturbet for the past 15 years.

He took over the business, which was originally located within the former Gilbride family shop at The Diamond, and continued in the roll after the service later moved to its current location, in the former Ulster Bank building on Holborn Hill.

More than a dozen people turned out on Wednesday evening as a surprised Mr Gilbride left the post office for the final time.

The family-run Killeshandra Garden Centre (KGC) has been open almost three years now, after Mr Gilbride opted to change the direction of the busienss from selling and supplying fresh-cut flowers to focus more on outdoor planting.
