Woman, age 50, suffered 'serious injuries' after her car struck a ditch

A woman was airlifted and treated for what have been described as “serious injuries” following a single car collision near Ballyjamesduff yesterday morning (Wednesday, January 26).

The incident occurred on the R194 outside of the town shortly after 9:30am.

The driver, a woman aged 50, was the sole occupant of the car which struck a ditch and into a field.

Gardaí and emergency services, including members attached to Cavan Fire Service from Ballyjamesduff and Virginia attended the scene, and air support was subsequently requested.

The woman was then removed by air ambulance Medevac 112 to Tallaght Hospital where she was treated for “serious injuries”.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana confirmed: “Gardaí and emergency services attended at a single car collision on the R194 near Balljamesduff, Co Cavan shortly after 9:30am on Wednesday, 26th January, 2022. The driver and sole occupant of the car, a woman aged 50 years, was removed by air ambulance to Tallaght Hospital with serious injuries. Enquires are ongoing.”

Second crash

A second crash occurred in the area around the same time, where a car scaled a ditch close to Killyfassy Cross.

The driver of that vehicle is understood to have been badly shaken but did not suffer injury.
