Five Erne Eagles players pick up All-Stars

Rounders

It was a long wait for the five Erne Eagle players who were awarded an All-Star following the 2021 Senior Championship. The National presentation was to take place on November 20 last in Dublin, but had to be cancelled due to Covid. It was rescheduled for February but unfortunately was cancelled again due to rising Covid numbers.

The five All-Stars finally got their trophies at a local presentation night in The Hideaway Bar on Friday last. It was a great celebration of the skills and sportsmanship of each player, and a huge achievement for the club to get five awards out of a possible nine.

James Anderson received his All-Star as the senior men’s pitcher. James’ reliable and confident pitching as well as his game management skills made him stand out right throughout the season.

Damien McArdle’s sharp reflexes as catcher resulted in impressive outs all season. His command of the game from the back was hugely influential in the Eagles’ All-Ireland win.

Darryl Dolan’s ability to cover and close down space outfield makes him a formidable opponent for even the most skilled batters and he was a worthy recipient of an Outfield All-Star.

Owen Roe O’Reilly earned his Outfield All-Star due to his superb catching ability, which also won him Player of the Match in the Men’s Senior final.

Hugh Briody.

Hugh Briody, who was unable to attend the presentation on Friday, received the Short Stop All-Star in recognition of his brilliant positioning infield, bravery in front of ground balls and a strong batting performance throughout the season. Hugh’s brother accepted the trophy on his behalf.

Congratulations again to all five on their great achievement.
