First look at the music line-up for Body & Soul Festival revealed

After selling out of early bird tickets and launching the 2022 festival without naming its headline acts, Body & Soul has now revealed some of its line-up for 2022 which will unfold across the Summer Solstice weekend of 17-19th June.

Body & Soul has this year halved its numbers and doubled its curatorial commitment, with just 5,500 weekend tickets available for this strikingly smaller 3-day event.

Body & Soul today lifts its festival curtain an inch to reveal that its Main Stage will be under the spotlight at key moments across the weekend, with exceptional performances from acclaimed musical acts, including, for the first time ever at Body & Soul, a very special Saturday night show from Róisín Murphy, who will perform from her fifth solo album and ‘testament to the transformative power of the dancefloor’, Róisín Machine.

Scottish post-rock band Mogwai, who marked their 25th anniversary last year, whose infectious energy will close the festival on Sunday night, hot off the trail of their European tour for chart-topping, Mercury Prize-nominated tenth album, As the Love Continues.

Body & Soul will also welcome live guests including mesmerising artist, MC and poet Sampa The Great; Californian singer-songwriter Remi Wolf; the dance floor poetics of experimental musician and producer Yves Tumor; and Dublin artist CMAT, whose debut album, If My Wife New I'd Be Dead, flew to the top of the Irish charts earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Lakeside, Body & Soul is thrilled to announce a unique album playback for world-renowned electronic music composer Jon Hopkins’ Music for Psychedelic Therapy. This immersive sonic experience, housed in a specially designed geodesic dome, will transport audiences into different temporal spaces at intervals over the weekend, inspired by the album’s journey across different geographical and cosmological spectrums.

Further performances across the weekend will include the likes of Welsh electronic musician and producer Kelly Lee Owens; American soul legend Lee Fields (aka Little JB) who brings his new album It Rains Love to the live stage; LA synth-pop and electronic duo Magdelena Bay (aka singer-songwriter Mica Tenenbaum and producer Matthew Lewin); avant-garde poet and performer Sinead O’Brien; enigmatic Parisian rave artist Godford; the euphoric sounds of Dublin’s Pillow Queens; Leeds’ witty and waspish post-punks Yard Act, whose new album The Overload scored a Guardian album of the week on release; the artful and cinematic alt-pop sounds of Soda Blonde; and the bittersweet house music of Berlin-based, Peruvian producer, vocalist and DJ Sofia Kourtesis.

With more to be discovered throughout the weekend, further audio delights include, the psychedelic rock of The Altered Hours; feminist post-punk outfit M(H)aol; Irish artist, musician and producerFears, aka Constance Keane, who will bring her ethereal combination of reflective electronics, acoustic samples and haunting vocals; and the frenetic sounds of Welsh garage rockers The Bug Club.

Alongside this tightly curated music programme, Body & Soul will also play host to a diverse array of artists and experiences across the weekend, from a large-scale immersive work created by digital installation artist Aoife Dunne, forming part of the Woodlands specially commissioned, site-specific art gallery, to genre-defying multi-instrumentalist Peter Broderick who will present a unique, three-part performance, fusing foraging, with siesta soundscapes and a live performance.

Also expanding the musical experiences across the weekend, Saint Etienne’s Bob Stanley will present a talk and DJ set inspired by his new Faber Social book, Let’s Do It: The Birth of Pop, charting the story of pop, from 1900 to the mid-fifties; while the not-to-be missed good old Pagan Rave will mark the Solstice on Saturday night, featuring costume, fire performance, traditional Irish music and DJs.

Candy Warhol’s Mockie Ah drag haus and queer cabaret show will be serving up brunch in thefestival’s ‘Avant Garden’ hub, housed within 17th century walled gardens and dedicated to incredible food, and captivating live entertainment. Fusing innovative culinary delights and food-inspired performances it will celebrate magnificent Irish food, courtesy of Food on Board; while the atmospheric Woodlands Stage will bring an eclectic day-to-night line-up, before it hands over to a late night party cabin in the woods.

With plenty more wild and wonderful guests still to be revealed, look out for further line up announcements; and special commissions of brand new performance work; a programme of late night parties & DJs; art installations, pop-ups and performance, which will transform the woodlands, lakes and gardens of Ballinlough Castle, Co. Westmeath, Ireland, under the theme ‘Betwixt & Between’ - a nod to the concept of Liminality and the place in which we find ourselves after the last two years.
