Break-in occurred March 30

Gardaí in Cavan are appealing for witnesses following a break-in at a house near Mountnugent towards the end of last month.

The property, which was unoccupied at the time, was illegally entered on March 30.

Gardaí investigating the burglary are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the local area on that date to come forward.

Detectives in the north meanwhile have made a similar appeal for information following a number of burglaries in neighbouring Co Fermanagh.

The PSNI were notified of two connected burglaries in the village of Brookeborough in the early hours of March 26.

A trailer, a lawnmower, two bicycles and a number of tools worth £7,000 were stolen from a shed in the Coalhill Road area of the village, with a £2,000 power washer then taken from a nearby property.

Police were also informed of several more burglaries in subsequent days.

Ffour males were witnessed "behaving in a suspicious manner" in the vicinity of a house at Church Hill Road, in Derrygonnelly around 11.20am on Wednesday, March 30, and later that same day a burglary at a house at Drumshimuck Road, Derrylin was reported. The property had been "ransacked, and money, jewellery and a number of personal items" taken.

A third report was received after entry was gained to a house at Duminiskill Road, Bellanaleck.

In addition, there were a further two reports of burglaries in the Belleek and Enniskillen areas.

"At this stage, we are investigating a potential link between these incidents, and our enquiries are ongoing," say the PSNI.
