Virginia College student wins Song Contest

Students from schools in Leitrim, Cavan, Westmeath and Monaghan took part in the event

Virginia College student Alyssa Seavers wrote and sang own her song 'Eye Sockets' to win the Cavan Institute organised Win Big Song Contest.

Students from schools in Leitrim, Cavan, Westmeath and Monaghan took part in the event, with a total of 12 acts taking to the stage at the Cavan Crystal Hotel on Tuesday.

Alyssa Seavers won the overall award- a complete production of the winning song - from recording to mixing to mastering, to artwork and graphic design for online platforms. The winning school - Virginia College, receives €1000 worth of audio recording gear for their music/communications department from Big Bear Sound Limited.

She had great support from her family, friends and school.

The Win Big Song Contest is run by staff and students of the our Music and Sound Production course at Cavan Institute and their Creative Digital Media course.

Sound Production Tutor, Daire OReilly was MC, and judges on the day were Gerry McKenny, Deputy Director at Cavan Institute, Catriona O Reilly, Cavan Arts Officer and Charlie McGettigan, Singer/Songwriter/Guitar Player/ Broadcaster.

Eurovision winner Charlie announced the winner yesterday and commented that he was very impressed with the high standard delivered by all acts.
