Learner driver caught doing 100mph whilst holding his phone

A learner driver was caught speeding at 167kmph in a 100kmph zone by gardai yesterday.

The driver was caught as Cavan Roads Policing Unit continue patrolling the N3.

"The driver on this occasion was an unaccompanied learner permit holder who has his licence a total of three days," say gardaí. "There were no L plates displayed or no NCT. When detected the driver was also holding his mobile phone. Needless to say the car was detained under Section 41 Road Traffic Act."

Another motorist was detected on the N3 between Belturbet and Butlersbridge travelling at 160kmph in a 100kmph zone. This driver was also a learner - car also taken off the road. Court to follow.
