Cavan's Covid vaccine centre to close

It's been open since early last year.

The HSE has announced it's to wind down operations at the Covid-19 vaccine centre in Cavan town.

Located at the Hotel Kilmore since April 2021, the centre was at the forefront of the rollout of the jabs in Cavan.

In a statement, the HSE says there will be a reduction in the number of centres across the country over the coming months.

As a result, the Cavan vaccination centre will close on June 22. The Monaghan centre which is located in the Glencarn Hotel in Castleblayney will close this coming Monday (May 23).

"We are reducing the number of our large vaccination sites because at this point we believe that we can provide the necessary level of vaccination required for the remainder of 2022 and beyond with a smaller number of sites, supported by local GPs and Pharmacies."

Over 83,000 vaccines have been provided in the Cavan centre since it opened in April 2021. Over 62,000 vaccines have been provided in the Monaghan centre.

The current lease agreements for both hotels will cease to operate in accordance with the decision.

The HSE says it wants "to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of everyone who was involved in establishing and running of these centres".

Pop-up vaccination clinics will continue to be held over the coming weeks. Mobile vaccination teams will also continue to operate within all areas through the summer to continue to deliver vaccination doses to those who are housebound and residents of Long Term Residential Centres (LTRCs).

Pop-up clinics will be held on Saturday, May 28 from 2pm – 4pm in the COurthouse in Bailieborough.

Saturday, June 4 from 2pm – 4pm in the old Courthouse in Ballyjamesduff.

Saturday, June 11 from 2pm – 4pm in St Patrick's Hall in Shercock

Friday, June 17 from 11.30am – 3pm in TMTS Training in Ballyconnell
