Man dies following Smithboro collision

A man in his 50s, the driver of the steam roller, was pronounced dead at the scene

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal toad traffic collision in Monaghan yesterday morning.

Gardaí were alerted to the road traffic collision involving a Road Roller Work Vehicle at Shankhill at approximately 9:45am, Monday, May 23.

“A man in his 50s, the driver of the steam roller, was pronounced dead at the scene,” say gardaí.

The man's body was later removed to the mortuary at Our Lady of Lourdes, Drogheda, where a post-mortem will take place.

The scene of the incident was subsequently preserved to allow for a technical examination to be conducted by Garda forensic collision investigators. This has since been completed.

But Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses to come forward and to those with camera footage (including dash-cam) to make it available to them.
