Funding boost for local health services

The announcement was made this morning.

Funding of €600,000 has been announced for local health projects.

€500,000 of that will go towards the major new extension at Cavan General Hospital.

The three storey building will include a new emergency department, endoscopy suite and a 16 bed ward and isolation rooms.

The Department of Health says an "overall hospital electrical and communications upgrade" will be carried out as part of that project.

The Department says the funding announced today is only part of the total allocation to be given for the project.

Separately, €100,000 is going towards the purchase of land next to Virginia Primary Care Centre. It's part of plans to extend the under pressure facility.

A two acre site next to the Rahardrum facility will be bought by the HSE to allow for the "future development of health services".

The largest allocation in the region, €5.1 million, is going to the new Primary Care Centre in Monaghan town.

It will be developed on a site in the St Davnet's complex and will include a Mental Health Primary Care Centre.
