Teenager's funeral to take place

Luke Beirne (17) died following a two vehicle crash on the N3 on June 9 last.

The Funeral of Luke Beirne, the 17 year old who died tragically following a car accident on the N3 last week, will take place later today.

The Funeral will take place at St. Patrick’s Church, Corlough on Saturday starting 12 noon, followed by cremation at The Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan Town.

The Corlough Community will be providing refreshments in Corlough Community Centre on Saturday evening at 5pm after Luke's cremation.

He is survived by his heartbroken parents Tony and Lorraine, his sister Grace, aunts Mary, Caroline, Siobhán & Tricia, uncle Swithin, and extended family.

He is remember too by his classmates and teachers in St. Mogue’s College, Bawnboy and St. Patrick’s N.S. Corlough, fellow team-mates and all in Corlough GAA and Abbey Rovers Football club, work colleagues and staff at SuperValu Ballyconnell, scouting family in Ballinamore, his neighbours in Corlough and his many, many friends.

Luke, of Teach Bríste, Tí Buí, (Teeboy), Corlough, died at Cavan General Hospital from injuries sustained following the two-vehicle collision at Kilnalack near Annagh Lake on June 9.

The driver of the lorry, a man in his 40s from the south-east of the country, was treated for “serious but non-life threatening” injuries.

Witness appeal

Gardaí continue to appeal for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N3 between Butlersbridge and Belturbet, between 5:45pm and 6:30pm are asked to make this footage available by contacting Cavan Garda Station on 049 436 8800, or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
