Bright future ahead for town - Kelly

There are exciting times ahead for Kingscourt with major redevelopment planned and the local secondary school continuing to expand.

Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Clifford Kelly says the town is facing a new and exciting time with millions expected to be invested.

A public consultation on the Kingscourt Town Centre Regeneration Scheme is underway.

A new library and digital hub are planned as part of the project, with a complete redesign of the town’s streetscape also expected. The town’s backlands will also be opened up to create a new carpark, taking car parking from the main streets.

“I want to encourage people in Kingscourt and surrounding areas to have their say as part of the consultation. It presents a great opportunity for the town,” appealed Cllr Kelly.

He also welcomed approval for works at Coláiste Dún an Rí, which were given the go-ahead by the Department of Education last week.

The school, which is expected to have close to 700 students enrolled for the coming school year, will see refurbishment works carried out. These are ahead of a planned major new extension to the school, which will double its size.

Opened in 2018, the new school building quickly reached capacity as Coláiste Dún an Rí proved popular for students in east Cavan, south Monaghan and western Co Meath.
