Council to turn landmark pub into apartments

Cavan County Council has completed the purchase of the landmark former public house, the 'Duckin' Stool', in Belturbet, with the local authority planning on transforming the property into accommodation.

The deal for the building, located at the junction between Belturbet's Main Street and Water Lane, which connects to The Lawn, was completed towards the end of last year into early 2022.

The local authority plans to develop two new housing units within the two-storey site.

Work has already begun on clearing out the interior of the former pub.

A spokesperson for Cavan County Council confirmed that they had "completed the purchase of the former ‘Duckin’ Stool’ property in Belturbet. It is proposed to develop two housing units at the site, comprising a two-storey duplex building with one unit at ground floor level and one at first floor level."

The council and partner approved housing bodies are currently overseeing the construction or renovation of more than 200 housing units, with an investment of almost €25 million, and more on the way according to Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien.
