Cavan photographers make shortlist

Two Cavan natives have been shortlisted for a prestigious astrophotography competition.

Aaron Kelly, from Ballyjamesduff, and Dara Callinan from Virginia, have both impressed the judges in the ‘Reach for the Stars’ competition run by the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS). Aaron and Dara each have two photographs selected for the competition's ‘Out of this World’ category.

Over 160 images were submitted to the competition in total this year, with 40 selected for the shortlist.

“It will be a difficult task for people to choose a favourite in the online public vote – and for the judging panel to select an overall winner," said Dr. Eucharia Meehan of DIAS. "I’m so impressed by the level of creativity and skill we have amongst photographers in Cavan and right across the country.”

While a high-profile judging panel will select the overall winning entries in the coming weeks, an online vote was recently launched, so members of the public can also have their say.
