Funding boost for music groups

Minister Catherine Martin praised the successful groups and musicians.

Two Cavan music groups are sharing in over €7,300 in funding announced this morning.

The Accora Orchestra and St. Mary's Brass and Reed Band are among 28 groups across the country to receive the funding under the Music Capital Scheme.

€6,758 is going towards the Accora Orchestra, formerly known as the Castletown Accordian Orchestra. It's now based in Mullagh.

St Mary's Brass and Reed Band, based in Kingscourt, is receiving €598.

The funding is divided between 28 non-professional performing groups, with a total of €165,156 awarded. 18 individual musicians received a total of €100,940, as well as nine emerging professional performing musicians who shared in €40,000.

The Music Capital Scheme is designed to provide support for the purchase of musical instruments and to respond to a broad range of capital needs within the music sector in Ireland.
