Mullahoran brings country back to Cavan!

Are you country music crazy? Then jive on down to Mullahoran this weekend and witness Ireland’s top country music artists bring the club to life.

The event, organised by the Mullahoran Dreadnoughts, is in its third year and is set to run from July 15 to 19. Attendees will dance the night away to big names such as Mike Denvir, Johnny Brady, Cliona Hagan and many more.

Mullahoran Dreadnoughts GFC Chairman Ciaran Brady hopes this year will replicate the success of 2019, the last year before Covid brought and

“We had a line-up similar to what we’ve got this year. We have Derek Ryan on the Friday night which is a great crowd puller.

“Saturday night was our biggest night last year. We had Mike Denver and Ciaran Rosney; this year we have Mike Denvir and Gerry Gunthrie so we envision that Saturday night will be very big as well.”

The fantastic Derek Ryan is the headline act for Friday July 15 and is a new addition to this year's line-up, having last played at the festival in 2018.

“I’ve been on the road performing now for over 10 years and we have visited Cavan on countless occasions, playing shows across the county.”

The Fermanagh based country star is excited to be back in the Breifne County where “the crowds are big and the craic is good”.

“Cavan crowds are always a very enthusiastic and responsive audience. They’re really into their music and like to have a good night out. This kind of audience is always the best to perform to.”

Derek Ryan is a well known country music singer throughout Ireland and has played in some of the biggest arenas across the nation. However, he loves performing in the smaller towns across the Emerald Isle.

“We really enjoy playing at festivals in these small rural communities because they seem to bring out all generations of country music fans who are simply there to enjoy the atmosphere and live music.”

All funds raised by the Mullahoran Country Music Festival will be put toward the development of the club, including the new pitch which has just been created.

Derek continued: “It’s also great to be able to showcase the good work Mullahoran GFC do as a local club. This is one of the biggest events of the year for all involved and we are so glad the festival is back in action.

“We hope this year’s festival will be the best yet, as local people will finally be able to get out and dance together in one big celebration after enduring the last two years.”

Derek wasn’t sure what his comeback would be like post-pandemic.

“I have been amazed at the reaction we have received since we returned to the stage at the beginning of this year, and the large numbers who came to my Irish concert tour after two years of closure. When we kicked off in my home county of Carlow at the end of January, we sold out the show and the atmosphere was electric.”
