Virginia

Orla Smith, Lakeview, Virginia, is again representing Ireland in the World Powerlifting Championships.

A young mother of two, her year began with an impressive first place in her weight class, the Nationals were held in Castleblaney last March.

She is now the proud holder of two World records and four European records.

Having qualified at this event she went on to represent Ireland at the European Championships which were held in Grangemouth, Scotland in June.

Again she was triumphant and took home first place in the "Equipped" and "Un-equipped" sections in her weight class.

She will now represent Ireland in Scotland on the 17th and 18th November.  Competition will be tough with 170 lifters, all from different weight classes and drawn from 14 different countries.

Orla is the only person from Cavan on the Irish squad of 37.

We wish Orla every success and know she is training hard as always which no doubt is the secret of her continuing success.
