Kingscourt and Cavan housing estates delayed

Plans for almost 100 new homes in Cavan town and Kingscourt have been delayed.

The two developments would see 76 homes built in the Dunaree area of Kingscourt and 15 homes at Drumgola Wood in Cavan town.

The Kingscourt development is earmarked for a site within the existing Dun Na Carraige estate on the Rocks Road, on land described as “brownfield” as construction of the estate stopped during the 2008 recession.

Destrina Ltd plans a mix of two and three storey homes in a mix of detached, semi-detached and terraced buildings.

Main access to the houses would be gained through the existing Dun Na Carraige estate, however, the developer says 22 homes will have access to Dunaree Lane.

A temporary on-site wastewater treatment plan is also planned to allow the development to go ahead. The new estate would be built in phases, with the on-site treatment catering for phase one until the town’s waste water treatment plant is upgraded by Irish Water.

A ringfort on site, which is classed as a national monument, would be protected.

Twenty submissions were made on the plans from local residents. One was from the Dun na Carraige Residents Association, with a number of others also submitted by individual residents.

Inadequate parking, poor water pressure, traffic and waste water treatment capacity were among the issues raised.

In Cavan town, Tully Developments Ltd plans 15 homes at Drumgola Wood.

Made up of one, three bedroom detached dwelling, six, three bed semi detached dwellings and eight, two bed terraced homes, access would be through the existing estate and access road.

No submissions from members of the public were made on those plans.

Cavan County Council has requested further information on the development, specifically dealing with open space, the gardens of some of the planned units and the need for an agreement with Irish Water.

The developers in both cases have six months to respond with the requested information.
