Consultation on Cavan Town flood scheme to take place

A public consultation on the planned Cavan Town Flood Relief Scheme is to take place later this month.

Cavan County Council and the Office of Public Works are holding the meeting to allow stakeholders and the public share their views.

It’s planned the proposed defences will protect 110 properties in total made up of 54 homes and 56 non-residential properties. It will provide protection from what’s described as a one in 100 year flood event.

The Cavan Town scheme is part of the Government’s investment under Project Ireland 2040. €1.3 billion in flood relief projects will aim to protect communities from the impacts of climate change through future-proofed, adaptable flood relief schemes. €4 million of that will be spent on the Cavan Town project.

ByrneLooby, the engineering and environmental consultants appointed as the design team for the project, will be available at the public consultation for discussions on the proposed scheme.

Members of the public are invited to attend and share their views and comments on the Cavan Town Flood Relief Scheme on Tuesday, September 13 from 2pm to 8pm in the Hotel Kilmore, Cavan town.

A scheme website has been set up for the scheme with the latest information: https://www.floodinfo.ie/frs/en/cavan-town/home/
