New roundabout for Virginia

Work on the roundabout on Virginia’s Main Street is set to be complete by the end of this month.

Construction on the roundabout, located on the square in Virginia, began on August 31 and has caused some traffic disruption on the N3 during peak times.

It is believed the introduction of the roundabout will aid in alleviating traffic build-up once it is finished.

The company in charge of the project says it’s on track, with concrete poured on September 2.

The upgrading of footpaths is also progressing well. Main Street, New Street and the area around Virginia Credit Union are all set to be complete by October.

Cllr T.P. O’Reilly (FG) asked for an update at the Ballyjamesduff Municipal District meeting last Thursday. He expressed his satisfaction with the improvements in the area, saying, “good work” that is of “good quality” is being done both sides of the road.

Construction work in the town of Virginia in recent month has impacted businesses, traffic and residents in the area. Cavan County Council has received multiple complaints. However, councillors believe the disturbances are necessary for the town’s greater good.

“You can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs,” summed up Cllr Shane P. O’Reilly.
