Durkan FF rep for Ballybay/Clones LEA

Ms. Durkan has been involved in politics locally for many years.

New Fianna Fáil local area representative for Ballybay/Clones LEA, Martina Durkan nee Hurson, has said she is delighted to represent her community.

Mum of three Ms Durkan, who is currently teaching in Cootehill Youthreach, commented: “When I got word that I had been selected, I was delighted, I see the role as a real opportunity to be able to listen to the needs of the people of Ballybay/Clones and to help represent them in any way I can. I am really looking forward to taking up this role and to be given the opportunity to work with my local community.

“I have lived in Co. Monaghan all my life and wish to work further to enhance and support the tremendous community here and the great people that have so much to offer within their communities.”

Ms. Durkan added: “I have always found time to be involved in community work and by extension politics, believing that if you want change in society and believe you have something to offer; then you must be willing to do the work, listen to people and work together to bring about that change.”

With her husband Mike, Ms. Durkan has been involved in politics locally for many years, as officer board members of Clones Ballybay CC since 2010, both serving as secretary and chair.

“Martina set on Clones Town Council before it was abolished in June 2014, a role she thoroughly enjoyed and Martina wished to acknowledge the work of Deirdre Kelly her colleague and to thank her for her tremendous support whilst she carried out her role as Town Councillor.”

Ms. Durkan thanked her husband Mike Durkan, Deputy Brendan Smith and Niamh Smyth for their encouragement and support to date.

The new local Fianna Fáil area representative concluded: “I look forward to working with all public representatives, in particular Cllr. Seamus Coyle who to date has carried out tremendous work for the people of the district. I trust that all those elected will work tirelessly for the better good of all those of whom they serve.”
