St Mary’s Hall in Kingscourt.

Well-known Kingscourt landmark placed for sale

St Mary's Hall in Kingscourt town centre has been placed on the property market for the first time in its history.

An impressive and imposing building, it stands at a prominent location on a side street close to Main Street and Market Square in the east Cavan town.

This late Victorian six-bay, two-storey former parish hall was built in 1888 and over the years has been the focal point of a wide range of community activities, including the late Fr Nicholas Foley’s beloved pantomime.

The hall has hosted the foundation of local clubs and organisations including St Mary’s Brass and Reed Band, which held its first practice there in 1915. The hall was also used by the Badminton Club for over a quarter of a century, as well as being occupied by the Boy Scouts, Apostolic Work Society, Legion of Mary, Alcoholics Anonymous, St Vincent de Paul Society, prayer groups, pioneers and the folk choir.

The protected structure has also hosted the local library in recent years.

Built of stone, with limestone quoins and deep moulded red brick cornice, it has a pitched slate roof featuring crested terracotta ridge tiles and stepped red brick chimney stacks and other impressive architectural features.

An oil-fired central heating system is installed and internal accommodation comes to approximately 306 square metres. The ground floor comprises an entrance hall, three rooms, ladies and gents toilets, boiler room and kitchen. First floor accommodation consists of two rooms and ladies and gents toilets.

“The potential for this property is endless,” according to senior negotiator, Eamonn Shields, of Quillsen. “Given its size and location it's sure to be suited for a number of business enterprises or for residential use.”
