Pop-up vintage clothing shop for Cavan Town

One of the founders of Cavan Town’s successful Eco-Shack is now giving local shoppers the opportunity to pick up eco-friendly clothing.

Bláithín McCormick believes that “fast fashion” is one of the world’s biggest polluters and, following the Eco-Shack model, hopes to make a difference in her home town.

This weekend (Friday to Sunday), McCormick will run a vintage clothing pop-up shop on Main Street in Cavan Town, across from AIB, from 10am to 6pm.

“As an eco-conscious shopper, it is hard to find good quality clothes that last and that are fashionable. This pop-up will have clothes from all eras that are waiting for the right person to bring them back to life,” she told The Anglo-Celt.

To aim of the project is to tackle fast fashion.

“It’s a major problem in many ways, including microplastics, dyes and of course the rate at which fashion changes. This causes an increase in volume of what we throw away or donate. These items are not made to last,” she said.

“As we have seen time and time again in the news, the reason fast fashion is so cheaply made and costs so little is due to exploitation of workers along the production line from its creation to your wardrobe.”

In order to combat this in some way, she decided to launch the Re: Vintage project. McCormick handpicks each piece of vintage clothing she sells.

“I aim to make sure it is fashionable, high-quality materials and unique,” she said.
