Trees to be cut at Bailieborough health centre

Entrance came under scrutiny by councillors at a recent meeting.

Road safety issues at Bailieborough Primary Care Centre were discussed at the Bailieborough/Cootehill Municipal District Meeting this month.

The entrance came under scrutiny by councillors at a meeting last Monday, October 24.

The issue was raised by Councillor Sarah O’Reilly. She deemed the area as extremely dangerous as many cars stop along the road to drop others at the centre, while others drive into the centre and are forced to reverse out of the entrance, which is located on a bend in the road.

The Aontu councillor suggested asking the HSE to cut the hedges “right back” at the entrance in order to improve sight lines for drivers.

Sinn Fein's Paddy McDonald agreed, describing the premises as a “very busy centre”. However he was unsure what solution could be found given the location of the facility on a bend.

Alan Lyons, the MD manager, stated that the council had only received one complaint about that specific area.

He also confirmed that the last accident at that location was in 2016. As a result, the site is not a concern for An Garda Síochána.

However Mr Lyons agreed that the trees need to be cut back. Having attended the scene himself earlier that day, he revealed that he struggled to reverse out of the centre onto the road.

He committed to contact the HSE regarding the matter stating that, if they were in agreement, Cavan County Council staff would assist in cutting the trees.
