Newstalk to broadcast local radio play

National broadcaster Newstalk is set to air a new radio production from local company Maccana Teoranta later this evening, Saturday, November 19.

The comedy called 'Sniper Joe and Sister Jim' stars Cavan actress Tina Kelleher, known for her work in film and television during the 1990s (The Snapper, Ballykissangel), and later The Clinic and Emmy award nominated Normal People. She currently plays Ger Lynch in the RTÉ soap opera Fair City.

The play also features Sligo’s Mikel Murfi (The Commitments), radio and television presenter Geri Maye, and Monaghan actor Pat Deery (Leap Year, Puffball: The Devil's Eyeball, and Atrophy).

Written by Seamus McRory, 'Sniper Joe and Sister Jim' was produced by Kevin McCann.

The broadcast debut for 'Sniper Joe and Sister Jim', which will air at 9pm.

Maccana Teoranta are involved in a number of TV and film projects, and a radio play written by award-winning Belturbet playwright Brendan McCann, and produced by his son Kevin, premièred on local radio last Christmas.

Kevin says of 'Sniper Joe and Sister Jim' that Kelleher’s first play as a student in Loreto College, Cavan, was directed by his father, the school’s former principal.
