€95K for new walking route in Arva area

Some €95,000 has been allocated to develop a new 5km walking route to the summit of Bruse Mountain in Arva.

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, confirmed the news on Monday of this week.

The Bruse Mountain Walkway Development Committee secured planning permission last month for the project. The walkway route to the summit of Bruse Hill at 260m will be via local road L-6522. The permission also provides for upgrade works to an existing agricultural laneway, signage, seating and all ancillary works.

The investment, under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme, came as Minister Humphreys launched Embracing Ireland’s Outdoors – the country’s first ever national outdoor recreation strategy.

Announcing the funding, Minister Humphreys, said: “This is a wonderful part of the county and this new walking route will provide a great boost to the community. It will help attract tourism and improve the experience of families alike.

“This is all about supporting our rural communities and investing in our outdoor amenities – our walkways, our lakes, our greenways, our rivers, our mountain trails."

The latest announcement brings to €300,000 the money Cavan has received under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme in 2022 alone.

“We all have a better appreciation for our outdoor projects as a result of the Pandemic and this investment will go even further to improving our great outdoor projects.”
