Killeshandra Christmas Lights Committee celebrates turning on the lights last year.

Festivities kick off Sunday in Killeshandra

Christmas lights

This Sunday, December 4 will see Santa and Mrs Claus make their eagerly anticipated return to Killeshandra.

Each Christmas the couple's arrival by fire engine is celebrated with a lovely family event, with an authentic community atmosphere.

The Christmas lights which were installed the length of the town last week in preparation, will be switched at 6pm.

Santa and Mrs Claus’ meet and greet - which is a free event - will take place after the light up in the Focus Killeshandra Resource Centre.

While the Claus couple's visit will no doubt mark the highpoint of the festivities, the fun starts much earlier in the day.

A Christmas market will be hosted at the resource centre, Market Avenue from 3pm and there will also be a ‘story time’ while Focus Killeshandra Resource Centre will provide a children’s entertainer before Santa’s arrival at 5pm. There will also be music by local artists and choir.

A special prize for the best decorated window in the town will be presented, so all businesses and houses in the town are invited to decorate their windows to make the town extra festive.

The committee this year are holding a quiet hour/space for children to meet Santa in a calm and quiet environment on the morning of December 4. For more information please contact Lisa on 087615 1831.

The Christmas festivities carry on into the following week as Killeshandra Social Services/Daycare host their annual Christmas Party. It will take place on Saturday, December 10 at 3pm in the Lough Bawn. All senior citizens and people living alone are particularly welcome.

If you want to come the organisers would appreciate if you would call Anna May at the KCC office 0494334990 or Mary 087 2880292.
