Spirit of lending!

Those struggling to meet the cost of Christmas could benefit from a special Christmas loan (6%) from the North Longford & Arva Credit Union team, who strive to make their members’ festive wishes come true.

CEO, Stephen McDermott, spoke of what the credit union is doing for members: “We are a not-for-profit co-operative, we exist only to serve our members, not to profit from their needs.”

Credit Union decisions are made by local people to enhance the community they serve. “We are local, loyal and lending. We currently provide loans from €100 up to €40,000 for all our member’s needs,” says Mr McDermott.

He described the closure of the Bank of Ireland branch in Arva in 2021 as a “setback” but said the credit union stepped in to fill the void and replace the on-street ATM service lost.

“We also gave our members the ability to pay their direct debits from their credit union account,” reveals the CEO.

The credit union will expand its offering in the new year to include an online loan application and digital signing facility: “These two new services will give members the choice of applying and drawing down a loan from the comfort of their home if they wish, or they can continue to come in and do the business in the office.

“Our loan book is open and we want to help members achieve their financial goals,” assures Mr McDermott.

He concluded by thanking staff, board members and members and wish them a happy Christmas.
