A woman has been arrested following the discovery of a man's body at a residence on Navan's Academy St last night.

Gardaí at Navan continue to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the death of the male in his 40s whose body was found in the residential property on Academy Street, Navan on Saturday (10th December, 2022).

The body of the deceased remains at the scene which is preserved for forensic and technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

The Office of the State Pathologist and local Coroner have been notified.

The woman aged in her 30s has been arrested and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Kells Garda Station.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room at Navan Garda Station 046-9036100 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

Two separate Garda investigations are now underway after the discovery of bodies in different locations in Meath yesterday.

Gardaí in Ashbourne are investigating the discovery of a body in unexplained circumstances yesterday afternoon, (Saturday 10th December.)

The body found in Kilbride area was discovered at around 4.30pm this afternoon in a wooded area by a person out walking, who then alerted the landowner and gardaí, who are treating it as suspicious. It is understood the body, believed to be male, was wrapped up in heavy material.

Reacting to the news Senator Shane Cassells said: "This old part of the town has been left reeling by the discovery of the poor man's body.

"As people went into mass this morning, just up the road from where he was found, they couldn't get over the news.

"It's a heartbreaking occurrence in the build up to a happy time."

Cllr Tommy Reilly described the news as "shocking" coming so close to Christmas. "You just don't expect to wake up to news like that in Navan. It's very sad, There's two families devastated today and my sympathies to the family of the deceased man."

Cllr Alan Lawes said he was deeply saddened to hear the news and expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased man. "It's tragic to think of something like this happening in our town so close to Christmas."
