St Pat’s lads release annual Christmas CD

2022 sees the release of the 12th annual Christmas CD production in St Patrick’s College, Cavan, with proceeds going to Cuan Cancer Care Support Cavan. The writing process for this year’s song was facilitated by a workshop provided by former students Daragh Slacke and Jamie Byrne. This workshop yielded five songs and eventually ‘Meet The Parents’ by Anthony Boyko, Christopher King and Jakub Kulig was chosen as winner.

The song bemoans the situation where a boy, who has been dating a girl for some time, wants to meet her parents before Christmas and, after several failed attempts, becomes belligerent and annoyed. As in previous years, the choir, traditional Irish group, and jazz band are involved in the production. The artwork, under the supervision of Ms Dawn McKeon, was completed by Arslan Akhtar and Rowan Byrne.

Mr Niall Monahan and the Transition Year students are working on a video that will be released on YouTube.

The project began back with Josh Mc Clorey (formerly of the Strypes) and Liam van der Spek in 2011. They wrote an original song to celebrate Christmas as part of a TY project. It involved almost the entire music department with representatives from the choir, jazz band, and traditional Irish group. Proceeds in the past have gone to charitable organisations such as CAPS, SOSAD, and St Christopher’s Hospice. Last year’s CD raised €1,460 for the local hospice.

This year’s CD features all the songs written from 2011-2022. CDs are on sale priced at €10 from Multisound, Cavan, and the school office.
