Arts highlights of 2022: Eileen Coyle

Early Music and Choral enthusiast from Ballymachugh.

Personal highlight?

Singing Baroque love duets with Early Music Ensemble, Chant21 in the lovely acoustics of The Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin

Best show this year?

The Museum of Broken Things by Jane McCormick (pictured below). I went to see this in the Cavan County Museum in Ballyjamesduff and loved it. I spent a long time taking in every little detail of it. I collect bones and bits of broken stuff myself.

TV/cinema highlight?

I discovered Harold and Maude this year, a cult classic about an unconventional couple trying to discover the meaning of life together.

Favourite book?

This year? Probably something by Ursula Le Guin (the only books I've ever listened to!) or Michael Harding. I revisited Iris Murdock, The Sea The Sea too, which is great and That They May Face The Rising Sun by John McGahern.

One to watch?

John Halton is a Celtic artist, writer and dream-poet inspired by themes of nature, local stories and Irish Mythology.

Wish for 2023?

To use my musical knowledge and skills to do more for the local community in Cavan, now that I live here full-time.
