Carol singers take to the streets of Shercock to raise money.

Carol singing raises €800 for Shercock

Shercock Tidy Towns were rejoicing as their inaugural Christmas Carol singing raies an amazing €800.

A great crowd gathered to join in and listen to the festive tunes while sampling very welcome mulled wine, hot chocolates, mince pies and sweet treats on a chilly evening.

The organisers thank the choir which was led by Audrey Ruxton with Conor Ruxton, Sean Maguire, Peter Foster and Jane Ruxton providing music, and a solo by Celia Richard. They also give a big shout out to all those who joined in the singing!

They also thank Mervyn and Pearl Dickson for the festive decorations and stove top to keep the drinks warm; Jody Farrell and Pearl who donated and made the very popular mulled wine; Donal and Sinead Clerkin who donated and made the sell-out hot chocolate and Cyril Fidgeon and Niall Birdy who provided tents to keep the elements at bay. And MC's of Shercock who allowed Tidy Towns to pitch their tents on their forecourt.

Thank you as well to Lidl Ireland for the mince pies and goodies! Carol Smyth, Jody Farrell, Katie O’Mahony, Owen Duffy, Sean Carolan and Sinead Clerkin from Shercock Tidy Towns were also on hand to help with bucket collections, traffic control and serving food and drinks, not to mention the set up and tidy up, as well as JJ Smyth.

And a big shout out in particular to Katie O'Mahony who spearheaded the event (and provided power for the music!).

“Finally, a massive thank you to everyone who donated to Shercock Tidy Towns. Thanks to your unbelievable generosity, we now have €800 which will go towards our ongoing plans to make Shercock an even better place to live in and visit for all! We’ll keep you updated on how we use your donations.”
