NATURE Results to help scientists understand how plants are responding to climate crisis

If taking time out to appreciate nature in your locality sounds like a good New Year's resolution, then why not head along to Con Smith Park in Cavan Town on Monday morning for a plant hunt.

This fun event is suitable for all ages and abilities and is part of the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland's (BSBI) annual New Year Plant Hunt. From New Year's Eve to Tuesday, January 3 the BSBI is encouraging citizen scientists to help record how many wild flowers you can spot in bloom. You may be amazed at how many you can find!

Now in its twelfth year, the hunt is contributing to our understanding of how wild and naturalised plants across Britain and Ireland are responding to are responding to changes in autumn and winter weather patterns. So you’ll be collecting important scientific evidence while you learn more about the wild flowers in your local area – and how to identify them. The hunt is also a great way to shake off the winter blues and get out and about in nature!

Cavan Communities 4 Climate Action (CC4CA) members will be on hand to help identify the plants in bloom at Con Smith Park on Monday morning. An app/list to record plants is available Our twelfth New Year Plant Hunt will run from New Year's Eve 31st December 2022 to Tuesday 3rd January 2023. We hope you will get involved and help us learn more about how British & Irish wildflowers are responding to a changing climate. from BSBI website.
