Cavan is doing well and let’s keep that going

Senator Joe O’Reilly (FG) outlines his political aspirations for 2023...

It is vital to approach each year with renewed optimism and resolve. We must aspire to keep improving ourselves and the world around us.

I hope that 2023 will see further progress and continuing success for three vital local facilities for which I have been successfully involved with gaining funding for some time. These are our highly valued swimming pool and leisure centre, the Courthouse and the new garda station under construction. I am proud of this vital infrastructure and hope there will be even more achieved at the end of 2023.

I have had the privilege of supporting a number of sporting clubs throughout the county successfully gain Sports Capital Grants over recent years. I hope we can do more of this. Similarly, I hope to see many community groups supported in 2023.

The announcement of the new campus and further development of Cavan Institute was a highlight of 2022 and I look forward to it progressing in 2023. Similarly the major developments at Cavan General Hospital already approved and underway will be transformative. Cavan is doing well and let’s keep that going.

I hope that 2023 will see more done on apprenticeships and an easy pathway for all our Post Leaving Certificate students into career paths in Ireland. This is being worked on and I’ll be keeping after it.

2023 can be the year when we keep a strong focus on Cavan’s outstanding tourism projects. We need to develop infrastructure across the county as we have done with my own involvement at the Castle Lake, Bailieborough.

The focus on hubs and locally based remote working must continue. It is vital to qualify of life and emissions control.

We must continue to support our farmers and indigenous jobs while of course always on the eye out for inward investment.

We have a great county an enterprising and resilient people, which we look to 2023 with optimism.
