Lucky for some - Friday the 13th!

LOTTO player picks up cheque for half a million

A Cavan native is celebrating this week having collected a cheque for half a million euro from National Lottery headquarters today.

The lucky lotto quick pick ticket was sold in McMullan’s Daybreak service station on Bridge Street in Cootehill for the Euromillions draw last Friday evening.

A spokesperson from the National Lottery office today confirmed that the ticket holder contacted them on Saturday evening and the ticket was officially verified by the Prize Claims Team on yesterday morning.

The Lotto player made their way to headquarters in Dublin City Centre today to officially claim their prize. They have vowed to share their prize with family, pay off their mortgage and other bills.

"Once the dust has settled on the win, they are planning a special family holiday in the sun to consider their life-changing win in the next couple of weeks," said a spokesperson.

There was great excitement in the popular Cootehill shop and filling station over the weekend when news of the win broke and there has been much speculation about the identity of the lucky winner.

“We have very little details other than we did sell the €500,000 winning ticket,” store manager Alex Lochner told the Celt on Monday.

“Everyone’s coming in this morning saying 'who is it?', 'who is it?' but no one yet.

“We’re not sure when they bought the ticket but it definitely wasn’t an unlucky Friday for them even though it was the 13th. They got a good bit of luck on that day.”

Alex reports the shop has been busier than ever since the winning announcement with punters hoping the good luck will rub off on them.

“There’s a bit of buzz about, a bit of good news at the start of the year.

“Once someone hears a certain place sold the winning ticket, they hope to see if they can get the same kind of luck!” said Alex.

The winning numbers in last Friday night’s EuroMillions Plus draw were: 07, 08, 26, 27, 37.

There was one winner of the EuroMillions jackpot worth over €68 million and the winning ticket was sold in Switzerland.
