It is with regret that we note the following deaths from Counties Cavan and Monaghan over the past 24 hours, as reported on RIP.ie

John Murray

Dingins, Corlismore, Cavan

John Murray, Dingins, Corlismore, Co. Cavan and formerly Cavan Town. Tuesday January 24th 2023, suddenly at his home. Beloved husband and best friend of Ann and devoted father of Cara and Callum. Predeceased by his parents Francie (Cha) and Joan, brothers Bernard and Francie. John will be very sadly missed and dearly loved by his heartbroken wife and children, his brothers Hughie, Jimmy, Paddy, sisters Joan, Mary Ann and Catherine, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, all his relatives and many friends.

May he rest in peace.

Reposing at his home in Dingins, Corlismore H12 HP60, from 4pm on Thursday evening until 8pm.

When calling to the house, you are asked to use a one way system from the Ballinagh/Arva road, which will have direction signs displayed to the house and then when leaving the house turn left and take the 1st left which will take you to the Ballinagh / Arva road via Dingins Bridge.

House will be private to family at all other times. Please be mindful that Covid 19 is still very much with us and you are asked to exercise caution and keep everyone safe at this time. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Cathedral of Ss Patrick & Felim, Cavan on Saturday at 12 noon and will be followed by burial in Cullies cemetery.

Joseph (Joe) Smith

Carriga, Crosskeys, Cavan

Joseph (Joe) Smith, Carriga, Crosskeys, Co. Cavan. Died Wednesday, 25th of January, peacefully at home, in the loving care of his heartbroken family after an illness bravely borne. Predeceased by his parents Patrick and Mollie, sister Anna and brother Shane. Sadly missed and deeply regretted by his loving wife and best friend Patricia, daughters Olivia (David) Stephanie (Eoghan) son Ronan (Claire), his sisters Phillis, Susan & Peggie and brother Pat, his adored grandchildren Mason, Jacob, Noah, Sadie and Conall, his extended family, friends and neighbours.

Reposing at Finnegan’s Funeral Home, Cavan, on Thursday the 26th from 5:30pm to 8pm. Walk through only. Funeral Mass, Friday at 11am in St. Dympna’s Church, Lower Lavey, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

House strictly private at all times.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff in the Lisdarn Unit, Cavan, where Joe spent a few weeks. A special thanks also to James, Ann and all the palliative team for their care and support towards Joe.

Packie Jones

Tonaneave, Magheracloone, Monaghan

The death has occurred of Packie Jones, Tonaneave, Magheracloone, Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan in his 89th year, peacefully and surrounded by his loving family, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, 25th January 2023.

Predeceased by his wife Anna née Ward, brothers Brendan & Jim, sisters Mary, Eileen & Delia, his nephews Jimmy Jones, Francis Ward & Delia's infant son. Deeply regretted by his daughters Cora (Michael O'Connor) and Bernadette (Tommy Hoey), sons Gerard (Kathleen), Francis (Alison), Paul (Geraldine) and Michael (Emma), brothers Michael (Magheracloone) and Peter (New Jersey), grandchildren, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Rest In Peace.

Reposing at Kieran Bros. Funeral Home (A82R3W2), Hall Street, Kingscourt on Thursday, 26th January, from 3 pm until 9 pm. Removal on Friday evening, 27th January, from his home at 6.30pm to St. Peter and Paul's Church, Lower Magheracloone, arriving at 7 pm. Funeral Mass on Saturday afternoon, 28th January, at 1 pm with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Jim Murtagh

Oram, Castleblayney, Monaghan

The death has occurred of Jim Murtagh, 4 The Cottages, Oram, Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan, Wednesday, 24th January, peacefully in Cavan General Hospital. Predeceased by his wife Josie, sister Molly, brothers Tommy, Pat, Joe and Sean, and recently by his beloved niece Mary Brady. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by his nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours, and wide circle of friends.

Reposing at his home from 8pm today until removal on Friday morning at 10:45am arriving to St. Patrick's Church, Oram, for requiem mass at 11 am continuing on afterwards to Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan for cremation at 1pm.

May He Rest In Eternal Peace.

Patricia Smyth (née Dean)

5 Carraig Brooke, Ivy Lane, Carrickmacross, Monaghan

Formerly Carricknagoan and Ballybay and originally from Bulwell, Nottingham.

Predeceased by her loving husband Michael.

Sadly missed by her son Conor, daughters Catherine, Helen and Suzanne, son in law Tommy, grandchildren Danny, Aoife, Niamh Zoey, Mary, Max and Alex, brothers Les and David, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. R.I.P.

Removal from her home on Saturday (28/01/2023) at 10.15 a.m., arriving at St. Patrick’s Church, Rockchapel, Upper Magheracloone (A81 KD72) for Funeral Mass at 11 a.m.

Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Peter Soraghan

22 Tully, Monaghan Town, Monaghan

Suddenly at home.

Predeceased by his parents James and Kathleen.

Sadly missed by his daughter Tracey, son Isaac, Isaac’s partner Sonja and his mother Debbie, grandchildren Avery, Nova and Mayvel, brothers Seamus, Michael, Brendan (Jeanne), Harry (Deirdre) and Philip, sisters Maura, Bernadette (Frank), Amanda and Carole (Mark), nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives and friends. R.I.P.

Reposing at his home on Thursday from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. and on Friday from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. House private at other times please.

Removal on Saturday at 10.15 a.m., arriving at St. Macartan’s Cathedral, Monaghan for Funeral Mass at 11 a.m.

Burial afterwards in St. Joseph’s New Cemetery, Latlurcan.
