Newbliss windfarm to be operational by Autumn

Construction of the Drumlins Park windfarm near Newbliss will be completed and ready for grid commissioning this autumn.

Owners Energia Renewables announced it has selected GE Renewable Energy to supply eight wind turbines to its 49MW windfarm in Monaghan. The agreement includes a 25-year full-service contract.

This is the first time GE’s 6.1 MW turbine will be used in Ireland, and the windfarm will be capable of supplying new, renewable electricity to power 34,000 Irish households.

The Drumlins Park is being developed as part of the Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) framework signed with Microsoft last year. Once the project is operational, a Community Benefit Fund will also be established to provide funding for initiatives in the locality.

Commenting, Energia Renewables Managing Director, Peter Baillie stated: “The development at Drumlins is both timely in terms of the urgent requirement for new electricity capacity and, is part of our broader ongoing investment in renewable energy across onshore and offshore wind, solar, hydrogen and battery storage. Aligned to our own sustainability targets, we continue to support the decarbonisation and the energy transition and facilitate the achievement of Ireland’s 2030 Climate Action targets.”
