Work on Abbey Street leaks planned

New pipes will reduce the instances of bursts, water outages and eliminate existing leaks.

Crews will arrive next week in Cavan Town to begin work on replacing 200 metres of old damaged water mains on Abbey Street described as being “susceptible” to regular bursts.

These works follow on from other recently completed works in Main Street, Wolfe Tone Street and Bridge Street, St Mary's Terrace, Billis, Drumlark and St Phelim’s Place, Cavan.

The aim, Irish Water says, is to provide homes and businesses in the Abbey Street area of Cavan Town with a “more reliable” water supply before Summer starts.

The new pipes along Abbey Street will reduce the instances of bursts, water outages and eliminate existing leaks giving customers much more confidence in their water supply.

Uisce Éireann’s Networks Regional Lead Declan Cawley said the “vital project” will result in fewer bursts and less leakage meaning a “stronger supply” for the immediate local area.

“These improvements to the water network in Cavan Town are essential in providing a safe, secure and more reliable water supply, now and into the future.”
