Yellow status wind warning for Cavan

Gusts of 80 to 110 km/h expected.

Met Éireann has issued a Yellow status weather warning for Cavan and neighbouring counties with very strong northwest winds developing throughout the day and gusts of 80 to 110 km/h expected.

Those gusts are forecast to be even “stronger” in exposed areas.

The start of the day begins with a mix of sunny spells and showers.

However, when winds veer west to northwest in western parts of Ulster this morning that’s when the “wet and increasingly windy weather” will sweep eastwards over the province later this morning and this afternoon.

“Some damaging gusts are possible, as winds increase strong and gusty with gales in coastal areas for a time. The rain will clear eastwards later this afternoon and evening but the strong winds will persist. Rather cool with highs of just 6 to 8 degrees Celsius.”

The Yellow status weather warning will remain in place until 8pm tonight.

The conditions will remain windy as the evening progresses, with clear spells and scattered showers.

“Lowest temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees in moderate to fresh west to northwest winds, strong in coastal areas.”

The outlook for tomorrow is much the same, with a mix of sunny spells and showers.

“Some of the showers will be heavy with a chance of hail. Top temperatures will range 9 to 11 degrees moderate to fresh west to northwest winds.”

The weather will stay cool and unsettled up to and including Saturday.

“Milder from Sunday,” Met Éireann predicts.
