N3 reopens following fatal accident near Ballyjamesduff

Road reopens as gardaí appeal for dash cam footage

The N3 has re-opened at New Inns following yesterday’s collision.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to accident in the Ballyjamesduff area yesterday evening, Thursday, May 4.

Emergency services personnel attended the scene of the fatal accident involving a car and a lorry. It occurred shortly before 5pm on the N3 at New Inns, Ballyjamesduff, County Cavan.

The driver and sole occupant of the car involved (male, 20s) was fatally injured during the course of this collision.

No other serious injuries to persons was reported.

The N3 at New Inns remained closed until this afternoon while Forensic Collision Investigators completed their investigation.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N3 at New Inns between 4:30pm and 5:15pm are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.

Meanwhile, traffic between Bailieborough and Virginia is now being diverted via Mullagh following a separate collision this morning on the R178 outside Bailieborough. The road is expected to be closed for a number of hours.
