Victim of N3 road fatality named

Road reopens as gardaí appeal for dash cam footage

The victim of the young man killed in a road traffic accident in the Ballyjamesduff area yesterday afternoon has been named locally.

He was Colm Tully (26) from Mullaghboy, Cootehill, Co Cavan.

He lost his life when the car he was driving was involved in a collision with a lorry around 5pm yesterday evening, May 4, on the N3 at New Inns.

Colm was the cherished son of Mary and Bernard, and brother to Eilish. He is also survived by his heartbroken grandmother Lizzie Tierney (Ranrenagh, Ballyjamesduff), his girlfriend Becca, uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

Colm was the second young man in just eight days to lose his life on Cavan roads.

Motorcyclist Aaron Keenan (22) from Inniskeen lost his life in a single vehicle incident at approximately 8pm on Wednesday evening, April 26, at Cornakill on R165 between Kingscourt and Bailieborough. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Garda appeal

The N3 has re-opened at New Inns following yesterday’s collision.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the accident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N3 at New Inns between 4:30pm and 5:15pm are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.
