High speeds detected in Slow Down operation

Members of the Cavan Roads Policing Unit detected a number of motorists travelling too fast on the N3 and other local roads during a 'Slow Down' operation.

The high visibility operation was conducted in the wake of recent road fatalities- three in a little over a week, and two within 24 hours on Thursday and Friday.

"Fixed Payment Notices issued and penalty points collected," said gardaí in one post shared to social media.

One motorist was detected travelling at 148kmph in the 100kmph zone on the N3.

Another driver was detected on the Virginia to Ballyjamesduff road travelling at 105kmph in an 80kmph limit while performing an overtaking manouvre on a continuous white line.

"There was also a cyclist on the road a short distance away," say gardaí.
