Killygarry students give radio a BLAST

Senior students from Killygarry National School are set to showcase their talents on local radio this weekend.

Third to sixth class pupils were involved in the BLAST programme, an initiative under the Creative Ireland Programme. Cavan Monaghan Music Generation tutor Aishling O'Reilly oversaw the delivery of the programme in the school. She joined forces with NYAH artists to get the school talent recorded for a special broadcast on Shannonside Northern Sound Radio. NYAH artists Karen McMahon (songs and guitar) and Martin Donohoe (accordion) worked in the school and introduced dance master Marian Crowe and percussion tutor Dwayne Kiernan to the pupils over a period of three months.

The show, produced by Fintan McManus, will be aired tomorrow evening (Saturday), May 20, from 8-10pm on 'The Wind that Blows' show. School principal Serena Prior and class teachers were all behind the project and to promote Irish music, song and dance and the role it can play in encouraging the students’ development.
