Shortage of carparking spaces in B’boro

Bailieborough is facing a parking shortage, urged Aontú Councillor Sarah O’Reilly at a recent Municipal district meeting of the Bailieborough Cootehill area.

Raising the motion, Cllr O’Reilly explained 15 parking spaces have been lost at J&L Stores following it’s new rental agreement.

An unofficial carpark at the rear of the Market Stall shop on Main Street has also been closed, she said.

“This carpark used to hold about 15 cars,” said Cllr O'Reilly.

A further nine parking places will be lost when Active Travel begin constructing the new footpath on Adelaide Row she continued.

“All this adds up to a reduction in available parking of around 40 spaces.”

While there is a town carpark “the town is full to capacity by 7:30am every morning”.

In response, a senior executive for the council said the town regeneration officer, Caroline Brady is on the lookout for possible sites.
