Breakthrough on Clones Gaelscoil project
Monaghan-based Broomfield Construction has been awarded the tender for construction works on the long-awaited extension to Gaelscoil Eois in Clones.
A new building for Gaelscoil Eois in Clones was given the green light last week after planned works were unexpectedly but temporarily paused by the Department of Education due to financial pressures.
In March the Department announced 58 school building projects across the country were to be postponed, with Gaelscoil Eois listed among them.
However, following significant pressure on government to reverse its decision, Minister Norma Foley confirmed an agreement had been secured to guarantee the rollout of the building programme.
The planned development will consist of eight classrooms and two special education teaching rooms, and the project has been devolved for delivery to Cavan and Monaghan ETB.
It will also include a new staff room, storage, toilets, a multi-purpose room, and a resource room.
News that the impasse had been overcome was welcomed at the May monthly meeting of board members at Loughan House Open Prison last week.
