It is with regret that we note the following deaths from Counties Cavan and Monaghan over the past 24 hours, as reported on RIP.ie

Kathleen Caffrey (née Smith)

Millbrook Road, Oldcastle, Meath / Ballyhaise, Cavan

Caffrey, Kathleen (“Cairn Hill”, Millbrook Road, Oldcastle, Co. Meath). Nee Smith formerly of Keelagh, Ballyhaise, Co. Cavan.

After a long and varied life, passed peacefully on 13 June 2023, surrounded by her family, in the superb care of St. Colmcille’s Nursing Home, Kells. Predeceased by her husband Jim, son Tom and infant son Patrick.

Deeply mourned by her family: Mary, Margaret, Michael, Seamus and Catherina, sons-in-law Ted and Miko, daughters-in-law Jean, Aidine & Bridget and Michael’s partner, Gail.

Proud Nana of David & Jennie, Michael, Andrew & Emma, Orlagh, Shane, Anna & James, Stephen & Aoife, Karl and Sarah & Niamh, great-grandmother of Hugh & Eve in London, Jack and Lucas in San Diego and Ellie in Atlanta. Sadly missed by her god-daughter Maureen and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, friends and neighbours.

Special mention here for her dedicated Carers who made it possible for her to remain in her beloved home until very recently – Trasa, Theresa, Martina, Lynda, Violet, Ann and Assumpta as well as many other valued carers over the past 6 years and for the continuous support from the ‘extended family’ of Directors, Management and Staff at Caffrey’s Millbrook Foods and Millbrook Edible Oils, [companies central to her life that she nurtured and supported over many years until her retirement].

Reposing at Gibney’s Funeral Home, Railway Yard, Oldcastle (A82 D376) on Friday, 16 June, from 4pm to 7pm. House private. Requiem Mass and funeral service at St. Brigid’s Church, Oldcastle on Saturday 17 June, at 11am followed by burial at Moylagh Cemetery.

Rose McDonald (née O'Reilly)

Grilly, Belturbet, Cavan / Bunnoe, Cavan

Rose McDonald (née O’Reilly), Grilly, Belturbet, Co. Cavan, formerly Bunnoe. Peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family Wednesday 14th June 2023. Predeceased by her husband Seamus and daughter-in-law Karen and all her siblings. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by her loving family, sons John and Peter (Riverstick, Cork), daughters Mary (Cellbridge), Carmel (Enniskerry), Sheila (England), sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, sisters-in-law Mary and Kathleen, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Remains will be reposing at Lawlor Funeral home Ernehill, Belturbet (H14 R583) on this Thursday evening from 5pm until evening prayers at 8pm. Remains will leave her residence on Saturday morning, 17th June, at 11.30am to arrive at St Patrick’s Church, Drumalee for 12 noon funeral mass with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

House private to family and close friends at all other times please.

Niall McGovern, Stramaquerty, Lisgrey, Virginia, Co. Cavan, peacefully at Cavan General Hospital, Wednesday 14th June 2023.

Much loved son of Bridie and the late Donny.

Predeceased by his father, brother Thomas, sister Margaret and his adored nephew Eden.

Reposing at his residence this Thursday from 3 o'clock until 9 o'clock. House private at all other times please. Removal on Friday morning arriving at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Ballyconnell for funeral mass at 12 o'clock. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

David Reilly

David Reilly, Kilnacreeva, Ballyhaise, Co. Cavan. Wednesday June 14th 2023, peacefully at Cavan General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. David will be sadly missed by his loving sisters Emmie and Edie, and brother Billy. Remembered with love by his sisters, brother, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Resting at the home of his brother and sister-in-law Billy and Christine, Knockfad, Ballyhaise, tomorrow, Thursday, from 4pm to 8pm. House private at all other times please. Funeral service in Ballyhaise Parish Church on Friday 16th at 2pm followed by burial immediately afterwards in the adjoining churchyard.

Removal on Thursday morning (15th) from his daughter Olga and son in law Frank's residence at 10.30am to Lakelands Crematorium, Dublin Road, Cavan arriving for Service at 11am followed by Cremation. Donations in lieu of flowers to The Ukraine Emergency Appeal c/o Briody's Funeral Home or any family member.

Crawford passed away peacefully on Wednesday14th June in Cavan General Hospital.

Crawford will be sadly missed by his loving partner Doreen, his sister Vanilla Gourley (Belfast) his Nephews and Nieces extended family and friends.

Alice Reilly (née Devine)

Peacefully at home, in her 100th year.

Predeceased by her husband Tom, his daughter Bernadette (Bernie), her parents Kate and Patrick, her sister Sr. Brigid and her brothers Jimmy and William.

Sadly missed by her sons Padraig, Thomas and Ciaran, daughters in law Eileen and Maeve, grandchildren Nicola, Colm, Íoseph, Eoghan, Tommy and Cillian, great grandchildren Ada, Harry, Millie, Sephy and Alphie, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
