Reviving an old tradition in Bawnboy

The first Corpus Christi Procession in over five decades took place Sunday last, June 11, in Bawnboy, with a huge crowd in attendance, and many people travelling from afar to attend this historic event.

The celebration procession left from St Mogue's Church and travelled into Bawnboy village, led by Altar Servers and followed by young children dressed in their First Holy Communion clothes scattering flower petals along the route.

Parish Priest Father Sean Maguire followed bearing the monstrance.

Father Maguire and Corlough Templeport Parish parochial Committee had worked hard to revive what was once an annual tradition within the parish of Templeport.

The procession culminated in benediction in Bawnboy Community Garden.

In attendance was 91-year-old Etta Doonan who remembers the very first Corpus Christi Procession that took place in Bawnboy Workhouse Chapel in 1942.
