Call for crossing in Ballyjamesduff

The need for a new pedestrian crossing in Ballyjamesduff was raised at the June meeting of Municipal District in Cross Hall.

Fine Gael Councillor Trevor Smith stated the Oldcastle Road out of Ballyjamesduff is a “very, very busy road”, which he deems in desperate need of a pedestrian crossing.

He outlined how four housing estates, a soccer pitch and Liffey Meats are all located on the road used by pedestrians including children.

Cllrs Shane P. O’Reilly (Ind), T.P. O’Reilly (FG) and Craig Lovett (FF) also supported the motion, agreeing a zebra crossing would act as a “speed deterrent”.

In response, senior executive engineer, Michael Smith, stated the crossing was on the radar of the Active Travel Scheme.

Cllr Smith pressed for the crossing to be installed prior to June 2024, ahead of the next local elections.
